Ensemble Average and Variance of a Stochastic Spiking Neuron
نویسنده
چکیده
SUMMARY This article theoretically provides the ensemble average and the ensemble variance of membrane potential of an integrate-and-re neuron, when the neuron receives random spikes from the other neurons. The model assumes that EP-SPs rise and fall continuously. Our theoretical result shows good agreement with a numerical simulation.

Inverse stochastic resonance in networks of spiking neurons
Inverse Stochastic Resonance (ISR) is a phenomenon in which the average spiking rate of a neuron exhibits a minimum with respect to noise. ISR has been studied in individual neurons, but here, we investigate ISR in scale-free networks, where the average spiking rate is calculated over the neuronal population. We use Hodgkin-Huxley model neurons with channel noise (i.e., stochastic gating variab...
متن کاملStochastic resonance in noisy spiking retinal and sensory neuron models
Two new theorems show that small amounts of additive white noise can improve the bit count or mutual information of several popular models of spiking retinal neurons and spiking sensory neurons. The first theorem gives necessary and sufficient conditions for this noise benefit or stochastic resonance (SR) effect for subthreshold signals in a standard family of Poisson spiking models of retinal ...
متن کاملStochastic Models for Multivariate Neural Point Processes: Collective Dynamics and Neural Decoding
This chapter reviews a stochastic point process framework for the modeling, analysis and decoding of neuronal ensembles. The spiking probability of any neuron in an ensemble is computed recursively via a system of stochastic nonlinear equations with delays in discrete time. These equations are expressed in terms of conditional intensity functions, which capture the effects of the neuron’s own s...
متن کاملPhase Transition and Hysteresis in an Ensemble of Stochastic Spiking Neurons
An ensemble of stochastic nonleaky integrate-and-fire neurons with global, delayed, and excitatory coupling and a small refractory period is analyzed. Simulations with adiabatic changes of the coupling strength indicate the presence of a phase transition accompanied by a hysteresis around a critical coupling strength. Below the critical coupling production of spikes in the ensemble is governed ...
متن کاملStochastic inference with deterministic spiking neurons
The seemingly stochastic transient dynamics of neocortical circuits observed in vivo have been hypothesized to represent a signature of ongoing stochastic inference. In vitro neurons, on the other hand, exhibit a highly deterministic response to various types of stimulation. We show that an ensemble of deterministic leaky integrate-and-fire neurons embedded in a spiking noisy environment can at...
